Sold by the pound or 50lb bag.  Sugar beets are an increasingly popular food plot choice for wildlife enthusiasts and can also serve as a feed source for livestock. Tops can be foraged and can be used in a silage combo. Highly productive, these large beets are excellent sources of protein, carbohydrates and vitamin A for livestock. NOT INTENDED FOR DIRECT HUMAN CONSUMPTION. Sugar beets have oval to spindle-shaped, shiny, white roots and a high sugar content. Plant at a rate of 6-10 lbs./acre in a sunny location with firmly packed soilpH 6.0 to 6.5. Sugar beets usually reach maturity in 95 days and grow best when daytime temps are between 60-80 degrees F and nighttime temps are between 40-50 degrees. Sugar beets will stop growing once a hard freeze occurs. Sugar beets are attractive to wildlife especially deer, which are purported to eat the leafy tops and also dig for and eat the roots to build up their fat stores for the winter.
